Research into primeval life in the cosmoconference of Cristiano Batalli Cosmovici
The event “Research into primeval life in the cosmoconference Cristiano Batalli Cosmovici" is part of a week long fair on biological evolution: DARWINDAY @ROMA
In preparatory anticipation of the major celebrations of the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth in 2009, the city of Rome is mobilising on a grand scale to pay tribute to one of the greatest thinkers of all time.
From Friday 9th February until Saturday the 17th February, events, characterised by much involvement with theatre, music, and art, have been organised throughout the city, which will involve high level scientific communication with a popular slant, for the general public and a educational element for teachers and students.
There will also be events of significant scientific communication together with direct interaction with students at Roman schools.
The locations are spread widely through the city, from the Zoological Museum to the Planetarium and the Astronomical Museum, from the Auditorium to the Theatre of Tor Bella Monaca, from the Feltrinelli bookshop to the Villa Mondragone, outside the city.
For Charles Darwin, Rome is bringing out all of its great scientific heritage, both material and abstract, and many of the greatest minds in biological evolutionary research.
Communicating to the city the high level of integration between Darwinian thought and the most disturbing recent developments in the fields of natural science, neuroscience and medicine, will help to put many of today’s irrational throw backs and various types of fundamentalism on a completely different (but not scientific) plane.
The group of the Scientific Museums of the Superintendency of the Municipality of Rome will contribute to Darwin Day 2007, presented here, with displays created as part of the synergy between ANMS (The National Association of Scientific Museums), the Gateway to Evolution - Pikaia and the SIBE (Italian Society of Evolutionary Biology).
